WHAT WE DO
Follow Jesus | Build Relationships
At First Christian Church, people are transformed as they find and learn to follow Jesus. We facilitate dynamic experiences to equip people in taking their next step in following Jesus. Everything we do is designed to help people find and follow Jesus. These are some of the ways we do that…
Our Vision
Transforming our world one family at a time by Targeting Men, Investing in Women, and Engaging the Next Generation
LEADERSHIP
JESUS CHRIST
Jesus is the Son of God and the head of the church. We work to reflect His characteristics in our church culture and His priorities in our church work, week in and week out. Through prayer, Bible study & guidance by the Holy Spirit, decisions are made to help people find & follow Jesus. No decision is made without careful consideration to ensure it's biblically in alignment.
CHURCH LEADERSHIP
First Christian Church is an Elder led church. As outlined in 1 Timothy and Titus, the Elders are a group of men who lead and protect the church. They are appointed to maintain accountability and to encourage and work with the staff to carry out the vision and mission of the church.
The next level of leadership is the STAFF. These men and women carry out the day-to-day work of the church. More specifically, our senior minister and executive director provide leadership and guidance in decision-making to empower the staff as they prepare for weekend services, trips, events, missional work, small groups, etc. The staff is made up of both full and part-time staff.
First Christian Church of Springfield is a completely 100% autonomous church. That means that FCC is not influenced by any particular denomination, but instead the church is guided by the Bible and its teachings.
WE BELIEVE
GOD
We believe in one God, creator of all things. He is all knowing, all powerful, all present, and eternally good. He exists as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Matthew 28:19; John 14:16-26; Genesis 1:1-2:25; John 1:1-4; Isaiah 53:1-6; John 3:16; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 1:3-6)
THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant word of God. Each book is reliable and truthful and contains the final revelation of God's will for humanity. The Bible is our final authority for our life, our faith. and our church.
(1 Corinthians 2:7-14; 2 Timothy 3:14-16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 119:11, 105; Matthew 5:18; 24:35; Romans 15:4)
JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus is the Son of God. He is fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross as a sacrifice to redeem humanity's sin. He rose physically on the third day and sits at the right hand of God. He is our great High Priest who speaks of God on our behalf. He is preparing a place for us and when He is ready, He is coming again to judge the world. Salvation is only attainable through His name.
(Philippians 2:5-8; Luke 1:26-35; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Peter 2:21-24; 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; Acts 1:9-11; Ephesians 1:18-23; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16; John 14:1-6)
SALVATION
We believe salvation is a free gift that must be accepted. Every person has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Sin has separated us from our loving God and can only be mended through a relationship with Jesus. God continues His loving pursuit of humanity in the hope that all will be saved. A repentant life, a confession of Christ's Lordship, and baptism by immersion are primary responses of our faith as modeled in the New Testament.
(John 3:1-21; Acts 2:37-39; 8:26-39; 10:1-48; 16:11-34; 22:2-16; Romans 3:21-31; 5:6-11; 6:1-23; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 15:1-58; Galatians 3:13-14; Ephesians 2:8,9; Hebrews 9:11-14; 10:10-13; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 John 1:8-10)
HOLY SPIRIT
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin and assists the believer in the pursuit of holiness. He lives inside each believer when they surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. He empowers each believer with unique spiritual gifts to use for the advancement of God's kingdom. He guides, teaches, comforts, and seals the believer until the day Jesus returns. We do not practice speaking in tongues in our corporate worship services.
(Ezekiel 36:27; Joel 2:28-32; John 14:26; John 16:7-11; Acts 2:43; Acts 8:18; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; 1 Corinthians 14; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 3:16-17; Ephesians 4:30; 2 Timothy 1:6)
THE CHURCH
We believe the church is the greatest hope for a hurting planet. The church is not a place but a people. As the body of Christ, we will exhaust ourselves in helping people find and follow Jesus. We will encourage people to spend their time, talent, and treasure to this call.
(Matthew 5:16; Matthew 28:18-20; John 13:34-35; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:14-17; Romans 10:14-15; Ephesians 1:22-23; 1 Corinthians 12:27; Colossians 1:18; 1 Peter 2:9-10)
